Internship program

Ko ngā Tuākana o ngā Aronui

We see the need for supporting the development of local leaders to respond to the needs of whanau /families in their own communities. Thanks to support from MSD, we are able to offer a 30 week paid internship programme. The purpose being to equip our interns not just with kai growing skills, but with the support and relationships they need to become local kai leaders in their communities. What we are learning however, is the sharing of knowledge and matauranga flows both ways, as our first cohort - the Māra Sisters, have shared their gifts, insights and skills with us in ways that have nourished and grown He Puawai and our wider whanau.
The Māra Sisters, Tash, Teina, Belle and Jo are focusing on their pathway to kai sovereignty and through this are learning how to help wider whānau begin their own kai journeys. They share their personal projects in upcoming workshops - (follow our social media for details.) These amazing wahine are with us for 30 weeks, and they have gifted the name of Ko ngā Tuākana o ngā Aronui to their journey which speaks to the creating of new pathways for themselves and others.

Applications open for the next intake early 2024.

We are super excited to welcome interns and look to the future of our Māra Ora initiative with our new leaders emerging to take on community spaces to grow kai.

Ka tū tahi tātou ki te mātauranga hei oranga tinana, hei oranga wairua kia tū tangata ai tātou.

(we gather to learn, to flourish to nourish. Here we stand together)
