He Puawai Trust Hapori

Kai Fund.

Become part of a local kai community that enables everyone to eat well and for us to become kai sovereign and resilient.

  • Help us to create kai security in our neighbourhoods.

  • Help create a collective response to getting our Hutt Valley whānau fed, educated, and connected - creating a neighbourhood response to kai resilience.

  •  By regular giving,  you’ll help to create kai resilience in your own neighbourhood.

How it works:

Whānau/families and organisations make regular contributions (as little as $5.00 per week) into a fund for their own community, that employs a Kai Facilitator.

10 percent of your donation goes into a community kai fund for your own neighbourhood that you have a say in how it is spent (eg local fruit trees, more maara kai/gardens, special projects, equipment etc)  You`ll get an update each month, and invited to share your ideas for kai creating projects, each quarter.

Your local kai facilitator  will in turn help to nourish the local  community through the teaching of growing organic, healthy produce, education of others, running of a Mara Ora site, providing free seedlings across your community, supporting local kura, schools and organisationss as well as promoting local composting and waste systems.

With your input we can work towards a steady return on the investment to develop Te Awa Kairangi where everyone has equal access to good kai.

 Pōmare Taita

Your regular donation to the Pōmare Taita Kai Fund will help employ Teina, so that Teina can then:

  • Run the Pōmare Māra Ora in Pōmare Taita which provides facilitated plots for whanau/families.

  • Grows kai with the community for the Hutt Foodbank for those most in need.

  • Develop a rongoa/herbs and native garden with the community.

  • Provides weekly workshops free to the community, including chicken keeping.

  •  Provide a local compost hub.

  • Educational sessions for kura/schools/organisations.

  • ten percent of your donation also contributes to your local Kākano Fund, which seeds more kai projects in Stokes Valley.

Stokes Valley

  • Run the Stokes Valley Māra Ora site where whanau/families have their own allotments are fully supported to grow their own kai.

  • Run the Stokes valley community greenhouse and seedbank where anyone can access free seedlings.

  • Support local kura/schools with kai education and school gardens.

  • Provide weekly workshops and sessions to the whole community, for free.

  • Support the weekly Kai Share event where food, education, seedlings and cooking classes are provided for free to all of the Stokes Valley community.

  • ten percent of your donation also contributes to your local Kākano Fund, that seeds more kai projects in Stokes Valley.

Wainuiomata

Your regular donation to the Wainuiomata Kai Fund will help employ Tash, so Tash can then:

  • Set up a Māra Ora (facilitated plots for whanau/families needing land and help to grow) in Wainuiomata.

  • Support the Pataka Kai grow food for those in need.

  • Run the community greenhouse so anyone in Wainuiomata can access free seedlings.

  • Support local kura/schools with education and school gardens.

  • Monthly free workshops for the community.

  • Ten percent of your donation goes to the Wainuiomata Kākano Fund which seeds more kai projects in Wainuiomata.

We have employed the Māra Sisters!
