Māra Kai and Urban Kai Rangatiratanga

Research by Rhiane Bishop

Rhiane Bishop’s Master’s thesis explores the role of māra kai in strengthening urban kai rangatiratanga, using He Puāwai Trust as a case study to understand how whānau reconnect with kai, culture and community.  Rhiane`s research highlights the importance of seeds, knowledge sharing and collective growing in supporting whānau wellbeing, strengthening identity, and enabling communities to exercise greater sovereignty over their own food systems.
